Kundalini Yoga & Meditation
"When Rich and I began our training as teachers in Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph. D, we had NO intention of teaching it. We learned it as a means of "spiritual fitness" for ourselves being that we are Shaman and work with other peoples energies in many dimensions. Therefore, in order to best serve our clients, we began to study at the level of "teacher" so that we may remain the "eye of the storm" within the potential energetic chaos of our energy medicine sessions. We quickly found that the science behind this ancient technology was incredible! Once we saw how invaluable a healing tool this system was, we decided it would be a disservice NOT to teach it. And thus, we are honored and excited to continue our studies as Practitioners of Kundalini Yoga so that we may share the teachings with you. Sat Nam!" - Dr. Lorraine Olivero-Brodeur and Rich Brodeur
What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness. It is only of recent years that modern medicine is beginning to understand what the Yogis have known for millennia. Kundalini Yoga is a scientific technology that blends the practice of movement (kriya), breath (pranayama), sound vibration (mantra), and meditation, to evolve our higher mind leading to increased awareness of one's true self. This practice teaches you how to tap into areas of your BE-ing that cause unbalance deep within your core. When doing so, you are able to release energetic blocks that no longer serve, so that your natural brilliance shines leading to increased wellness, health and vitality.
This ancient powerful technology, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, PhD, is a blend of ancient knowledge with modern practicality that invigorates and heals your body, mind and spirit. It does so by stimulating the nervous, endocrine and immune systems, while improving strength and flexibility, as it balances the mind and opens the spirit. From your very first class, you will be taught ancient sacred tools by which you can achieve maximum creative potential, learn to master your mind so that you may free yourself from Karma (the result of past actions) and learn to walk through chaos as though YOU are the eye of the storm- understanding the projections of others is "their stuff", not yours... You learn productive tools that allow you to cope with the pressures of the world and succeed. You begin to realize your life purpose and find an improvement in physical and emotional conditions such as joint/muscle stiffness, stress, increased metabolism, depression, insomnia, and all else one could ever imagine that one would need. This technology allows you to come face to face to what you have been searching for your whole life- and that is YOU! Kundalini Yoga is a path to awakening your full potential of human awareness by clearing inner duality and cultivating stillness. This is a practice that everyone can do!
The term “Kundalini” is an ancient Sanskrit word that literally means “coiled snake" and is referred to our energetic life force (which resides at the base of our first chakra, located in our lower pelvic area). Historically, kundalini has been depicted as a "snake" not only in ancient Vedic traditions, but also in modern medicine (as seen in the "caduceus"- the symbol for medicine). In early Eastern religion (long before Buddhism and Hinduism) it was believed that each individual possessed this divine energy at the base of the spine. This energy was thought to be the sacred energy of creation. This energy is something we are all born with, but we must make an effort to “uncoil the snake,” thereby putting us in direct contact with the divine. It is understood that once we awaken our kundalini, our "life force", it will begin to rise up through our central channel spinal canal and chakras, clearing out all of those energies that no longer serve us. In doing so, we find our inner truth which leads to balance within our life, health and vitality. Kundalini Yoga is the practice of awakening our Higher Self and turning potential energy into kinetic energy.
Today’s Western definition of yoga is limiting, describing a specific type of exercise. But to the ancients, yoga was a sacred spirit-body connection. Their goal was not fitness. It was direct connection with Brahman, the God-like spirit within us. No religious buffer between man and God was considered necessary. Just practice. Of the many yogas that developed over the past 5,000 years, Kundalini was considered the most sacred.
Kundalini Yoga is a ancient Raj ("king")Yoga that is over 5,000 years old that was historically only taught to a chosen few within the royal lineage, to give them a heightened sense of awareness and consciousness, to allow them to rule their kingdoms efficiently. Thankfully, Yogi Bhajan taught us that we are all kings and queens and thus began to teach us this ancient technology since 1969.
